Suspect falls into Kelani River and drowns during police raid
A suspect, 24, has drowned in the Kelani River while fleeing police arrested when their illegal gem mine was raided.
Residents claim that the police STF officials did not attempt to save the man while he drowned.
He was first admitted to the Avissawella General Hospital where he died.
Police said statements by the officials involved were recorded.
